Amanda Coakley is a Strategic Advisor and Europe’s Futures Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna.

Her writing on European affairs, human rights, and the rise of ultraconservatism has appeared in Foreign Policy, Prospect, and TIME, earning her the Piazza Grande Religion Journalism Award and an MHP International Affairs Reporting Award.

She began her career in broadcast news at CNN International, the BBC, and later, Channel 4, where she worked on leading programmes including Amanpour, Channel 4 News, and The Andrew Marr Show. Amanda has reported extensively from across Europe and produced in-depth field coverage of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh.

In recent years she has consulted international organisations working to safeguard democracy – a role that has led her to advise policymakers and international CEOs.

A graduate of University College Dublin, where she was an Ad Astra Scholar, Amanda was named an Aspen UK Rising Leaders Fellow in 2024.
